ANXIETY FIVE STEPS
I hope, if you made it this far, that the information I have provided has begun to help you as far as understanding anxiety disorder. I can't stress enough the importance of finding resources to help you in eliminating the fear you may be feeling. I feel that it is one of the most important steps in the journey your about to take to become your old self again.
At this point I would like to review what you may have learned on my site.
I've put them all together into five steps.
They are all very important steps that need to be taken in order for you to begin your healing mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
- Step 1 - You absolutely need to see your doctor
or other health care professional ASAP. You do not
want to misdiagnose yourself. Also by doing this,
you are able to eliminate the fear that you are dying
or that you have a "brain tumor" or your
having a "heart attack". All of these are
very common assumptions with anxiety disorder.
- Step 2 - Once you have been diagnosed with some
form of anxiety disorder, you need to find support.
This is going to help eliminate the fear that you're
alone. Opening up to family or a spouse is very important.
Like me, you may find out you have something in common
with another member of your family. Remember 1 in
5 Americans suffer from some form of anxiety.
- Step 3 - You need to find out as much as you
can about the type of anxiety you may suffer from.
Read, read, read. Search, search, search.
- Step 4 - Learn how to relax. Try
to rid yourself of tension. Hopefully, at this step,
you will be able to accept that the two most tension
building fears are not real:
1. You're not alone.
2. You're not dying.
- Step 5 - Choose a resource here at livingwithanxiety.com that is going to be the base of your healing. Step by step programs are going to go into much more detail then I can. They will help you in learning the techniques that are going to help you get your life back.
I hope that these 5 steps will help give you some direction, and help you to get started on getting better. Learning these steps is only the beginning. You need to have strength, courage and belief.
This disorder is so treatable, and most of the treatment is about you and your inner self. The world today is very fast paced. Everybody needs to have it now, get there now, be there now. There is no time for yourself, relaxation, or sleep.
It is this fast-paced way of life that is causing anxiety in a large percentage of the 23 million people who suffer from it. The smaller percentages are caused from trauma, illness, insomnia, and work, just to name a few. If you would like to read more about the statistics of anxiety click here.
I have a story that I would like to share with you. It is a fictional story that I like to use as an example of the determination and strength one needs in order to eliminate anxiety disorder & panic attacks.
Lets say a fictional character named Joe got in an accident. He hurt his legs badly and cannot walk at all. He wants to walk again so much, but he will have to start all over again as if he is a baby just learning to walk. It will take him months of physical therapy.
Much like that accident brought Joe's life to a halt, that may be what is happening to you. Your life may be at a halt. It is going to take time, strength, acceptance, and courage to make this happen. But just like Joe wanted to walk again, I know you want to live life again.
I know you can do this! My words will always be here for comfort. I wish you well!
