How to Relieve Debilitating Anxiety

Anxiety develops after an extended period of stress, usually six months or longer. When you suffer from an anxiety disorder, it can severely debilitate your life and your sense of well-being. Fortunately, or unfortunately, life goes on.

Being able to overcome and relieve your anxiety is crucial for living a normal life, but it’s easier said than done. While it’s important to discover what works for you, there are some simple ways of getting on the right path right now.

Practice Meditation

Whether you listen to a recorded meditation or simply sit in silence and breathe, meditation is one of the best ways to feel centered and reduce your anxiety. Regardless of where you are or how much time you have, taking a few deep breaths every day can help you to feel relaxed and confident.

Get Organized

When you feel disorganized and chaotic in your own life, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and anxious. Before you have an anxiety attack, prioritize your responsibilities and cut out what’s unnecessary; controlling anxiety comes from controlling your own life and activities. Making too many commitments is also an anxiety inducer; learning to say no is an important part of maintaining balance.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

Substances like coffee, tobacco, and alcohol can have a negative effect on someone with a generalized anxiety disorder. Getting enough fruits and vegetables and avoiding things like sugar and processed foods can improve your all-around health and reduce your anxiety symptoms.
